i wonder if you've noticed the cherry blossoms that line the roads we travel on everyday. they're in full bloom now, at their most epheremal. the flowers are in varying degrees of pink, from pink so light it's almost white, to pink that almost looks purple. the flowers hang thickly on the branches, and one can hardly see any green or brown. beneath the tree is a blanket of fallen petals, like a layer of snow. we zip around in cars and buses and we don't blink an eye at mother nature in her full splendor before us. there is not much i give credit to the west for, but if there is one, it is their ability to stop and smell the roses. perhaps it is the asian culture to work ourselves to the bone, to be preoccupied with being successful in life. perhaps rushing around like fools make us feel purposeful. perhaps we're just too occupied with the material things in life, that we cannot spare a moment to appreciate what is free. what is the point of slogging through life, without knowing what it is to watch the colours dance in the sky at sunset?
it is much too pretty a day to be so tied up with work.
